About Us

We are a German Kindergarten in South London, Herne Hill. We occupy a large space in St. Faith’s Community Centre and we also have a huge outdoor area for play and fun. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds. They do not need to know any German but hopefully will enjoy the opportunity to be immersed in another language and culture.

Our Bilingual Approach

We promote bilingualism from early childhood. This is the time when two languages are most easily learnt. When children first begin to speak a new language they will not be fluent and they will communicate by intonation rather than words. They are greatly helped if they can talk with people who are completely fluent.

In the German Kindergarten staff are native speakers. We emphasise story-telling and reading as a way to immerse the children in the German speaking environment. We teach about German language and culture by following German holidays and traditions. We strongly believe it particularly stimulates children in their intellectual development to learn from more than one culture hear and speak another language. This also influences the children’s self esteem positively .

Above all our message is ‘speaking German is great’.
We support and encourage our children to speak two languages.
